What is cabinet door replacement?

Cabinet door replacement removes existing cabinet doors and drawer fronts and fits new ones to the same cabinet boxes, leaving the carcasses, layout and plumbing untouched. New fronts are spray-finished before delivery. In Ontario it typically costs $5,500 to $11,000 CAD with two to three days of on-site work.

  • Cabinet door replacement in Ontario typically costs $5,500 to $11,000 CAD for a full kitchen.
  • On-site installation takes 2 to 3 working days because the new fronts are sprayed before delivery.
  • Cabinet doors and drawer fronts account for roughly 80 percent of the visible surface of a kitchen.
  • Shaker has been the most requested cabinet door style in Ontario for more than a decade.
  • Thermofoil doors commonly delaminate near ovens and dishwashers, which is a leading reason Ontario homeowners replace fronts rather than refinish them.

Why choose this service

What cabinet door and drawer replacement gets you.

01

Change the style, not just the colour

Painting cannot fix a cathedral arch or a raised panel that reads dated. New fronts can, because the shape itself changes.

02

Fastest option on site

Fronts arrive already sprayed, so the disruptive part of the job is measuring and fitting rather than sanding and finishing.

03

Solves damage painting cannot

Peeling thermofoil, warped doors and blown-out hinge screws are replaced rather than covered up.

04

Soft-close as standard

New hinges and runners go on with the new fronts, so the kitchen feels different to use, not just different to look at.

05

No demolition

The boxes stay bolted to the wall. No plumbing, no electrical, no drywall repair, no permit.

06

Payment secured until sign-off

Held under our secure payment terms and released once you confirm the fitted kitchen.

When the doors are the problem, not the kitchen

Plenty of Ontario kitchens have perfectly sound cabinet boxes behind doors that cannot be saved. Thermofoil that has peeled away from the MDF core near the oven. Doors that have warped in a humid basement kitchen. Cathedral-arch oak fronts where the shape itself, not the colour, is what reads as dated.

Replacing just the fronts solves all of that. The carcasses stay bolted to the wall, the layout stays, the plumbing stays, and the visible 80 percent of your kitchen becomes new.

Sprayed before they arrive

New fronts are finished in a controlled booth before they ever reach your house. That means the on-site work is measuring, fitting and hanging rather than sanding and spraying, which is why this is often the fastest option in the range — two to three days on site for most kitchens.

Choosing a door style that lasts

Shaker remains the safest choice and has held its position for over a decade, largely because its simple square frame does not belong to any particular era. Flat slab doors suit modern and condo kitchens and are the easiest to keep clean, since there is no profile for grease to collect in. Beaded and raised panel styles suit traditional homes but tie you more tightly to a specific look.

The process

Step by step, start to sign-off.

STEP 01

Survey and measure

Every opening is measured individually, because cabinet runs are rarely as uniform as they look. Box condition and hinge mounting points are checked at the same time.

STEP 02

Style and colour selection

You choose the door profile and the finish colour. Physical samples are left with you rather than a catalogue image.

STEP 03

Manufacture

Fronts are built to your measurements. This is the waiting period, typically two to three weeks, and you keep using your kitchen normally throughout.

STEP 04

Booth spraying

New fronts are primed and sprayed in a controlled booth, cured properly, and inspected before they leave for your house.

STEP 05

Fitting

Old fronts removed, new hinges and runners fitted, new fronts hung and aligned. Alignment is where this job is judged, so it is done slowly.

STEP 06

Adjust and sign-off

Every door is adjusted for even gaps and consistent closing, the site is cleaned, and you walk the kitchen before payment releases.

I went in expecting to reface and the specialist told me my boxes and frames were fine and I only needed new doors. That was a few thousand dollars less than I had budgeted. Hard to argue with that kind of honesty.

Questions

Cabinet Door and Drawer Replacement: common questions

Is door replacement cheaper than a new kitchen?

Considerably. Full cabinet replacement in the GTA commonly runs $20,000 to $45,000 CAD once demolition, new carcasses, installation and the associated plumbing and electrical work are counted. Replacing fronts sits at $5,500 to $11,000 and takes days rather than weeks.

Can I keep my existing hinges?

Usually not, and you would not want to. New fronts are drilled for modern soft-close hinges, and old hinges are often the worn component that made the kitchen feel tired in the first place. New hinges and runners are included.

How long is the wait for new doors?

Typically two to three weeks from approval to delivery, then two to three days of fitting. Your existing kitchen stays fully usable during the manufacturing period, so the disruption is limited to the fitting days.

What if my cabinet boxes are not standard sizes?

Fronts are made to your measured openings, not to standard sizes, which is why every opening is measured individually rather than assumed. Older Ontario homes with custom-built cabinetry are handled the same way.

Which door style is safest for resale?

Shaker. It has been the dominant style in Ontario for over a decade and its plain square frame does not read as belonging to a specific year. Slab suits modern and condo kitchens well. Heavily detailed raised panel styles are the most likely to date.

Can you match new fronts to cabinets I am keeping?

Yes. This is common when a pantry or a built-in unit is staying. New fronts are sprayed to match the existing finish, though on an aged finish an exact match is not always achievable and your specialist will be honest about that before you commit.

Do drawer boxes get replaced too?

Only the fronts by default. If the drawer boxes themselves are sagging or the runners have failed, those can be replaced as an add-on. It is quoted separately so you can decide per drawer.

Will the new fronts fit the existing cabinet interiors?

Yes, provided the boxes are square and structurally sound, which is checked during the survey. If a box has racked or the hinge mounting area has blown out, that box is repaired first or flagged as needing replacement.
